Zung Fu customers witness the return of Superman
"What's that in the sky?"
"It's a bird."
"It's a plane."
"No, it's ..."
It's Superman. Nearly 20 years after the last appearance of Superman on the cinema screen in 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, our perennial hero finally returns to re-rescue the world. Zung Fu invited 1,500 Mercedes-Benz car owners to witness his return in the new film, Superman Returns. The screenings were at the UA Times Square in Causeway Bay on July 22-23, 2006.
The movie begins with Superman (Brandon Routh) leaving Earth to try to find his former home in the universe, the planet Krypton. He fails to find anything but remnants of the planet and after five years he returns to Earth, only to discover that in his absence the world's crises have gone unheeded. His old enemy, Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey), is plotting to grow Krypton crystals into a new continent that will destroy most of the North America, while the woman Superman loves, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), is engaged to a nephew of the editor-in-chief.
In an attempt to protect the world he loves and stop Luthor from killing billions of people, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.
Ultimately, Superman Returns is a classy rendition of the classic good vs evil tale. It took 10 years to get the project off the ground, but Bryan Singer's direction and his cast have surely proved it was time well spent.
For the Zung Fu customers - car enthusiasts all - at the screening, perhaps the most memorable moment in the movie was that iconic scene when Superman lifts a car above his head. A classic moment from a classic movie.
