On September 25, Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Limited unveiled the latest smart fortwo at the smart-hongkong showroom. Three cars, including smart fortwo cabrio (pulse), smart fortwo coupé (pulse), and smart fortwo coupé (passion), were shown at the event. smart – Inside and Out Speaking at the launch, Mr Harald Behrend, Chief Operating Officer of Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Limited, said: "Since the birth of the first smart fortwo in 1998, the unique design has made fortwo an icon of style, youth and energy. Smart fortwo demonstrates an extraordinary vehicle concept, it proves that size is not a measurement of safety, and a smaller car means more to the city. With the exceptional mobility of the new smart fortwo, you will discover a new side of the city." The new smart fortwo has a 19.5-centimeter increase in length, which benefits both ride comfort and rear impact protection. You will also discover that it has a fresh, more masculine appearance than the first generation. However, the distinctive features of the original smart – the one-box design, compact dimensions, two-colour and two-material concept with striking tridion safety cell and practical plastic body panels – are retained. Engines: Powerful yet clean With the newly developed petrol engine, the turbo engine has one-liter capacity, which delivers 84 bhp and links to a new automated manual five-speed transmission, giving the new smart fortwo a maximum speed of 145 km/h. Despite the greater engine power, the petrol’s CO2 emission is only 116 g/km, which is even lower than the last generation’s 700cc engine. This leads the new smart fortwo to a leading position in terms of environmental friendliness. Two models are available in Hong Kong: the smart fortwo coupe (pulse/passion), and smart fortwo cabrio (pulse/passion). The smart fortwo cabrio is the only convertible in the world, which does not have to be stationed for the electric soft top to be opened or closed – this can be done even at top speed. Great driving fun is thus ensured. These compact cars are perfectly suited to urban mobility. That they are environmental friendly too makes them perfect cars for those who care about the future.
