Mercedes-Benz Continues its Commitment to the Hong Kong Derby
Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Limited has announced the sponsorship of the Hong Kong Derby for another three years until 2009. The agreement incorporates the three races set aside for the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Classic Mile, the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby Trial and the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby itself.
Contributing to the Society
Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Limited believes that the on-going partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which is based on the common values, will benefit their customers as well as contributing to society in Hong Kong.
Most enthralling Derby Race
This year, the finale of Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby was successfully accomplished on March 18, 2007. The prize money has risen to HK$16million from HK$14million, making it not just the richest domestic event but also one of the richest Derbies in the world.
In the most enthralling Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby of recent years, Vital King nosed out odds-on favourite Floral Pegasus (who won the Mercedes Benz Classic Miles and Mercedez-Benz Derby Trial) to present Paul O' Sullivan with the proudest moment of his Hong Kong training career.
Winner of 11 New Zealand Trainers' Premierships and four Derbies in both his homeland and Australia, O'Sullivan is challenging for the first Hong Kong title since arriving in 2004 - but until today victories in the majors had eluded him.
