Investment in People is a Winning Formula
Technical staffs at Zung Fu are hand-picked from the very best applicants - and keep learning throughout their careers with the company.
Attention to detail and quality is a hallmark of the Mercedes-Benz brand. And those same renowned qualities are applied just as rigidly when it comes to hiring and training Zung Fu technical staff.
Zung Fu does not accept mechanics or technical staff who have worked elsewhere - all employees are hand-picked ftor their potential before undergoing extensive training programmes that have been meticulously drawn up by Mercedes-Benz. This ensures that Zung Fu can attract the very best trainees - and provide them with world-class training and facilities to learn job skills.
Authorised Workshops
Once selected to join Zung Fu, the trainees attend product training at the Mercedes-Benz training school. Their on-the-job programme is carried out in authorised Mercedes-Benz workshops, the only places where the equipment, safety and work-standard are up to the levels demanded by the automobile manufacturer.
The basic automobile engineering training is undertaken at selected colleges and universities, or in vocational training schools that have an affiliation with Zung Fu.
Even when courses are completed, there are more comprehensive tests and examinations to ensure each individual has the correct knowledge and appropriate attitude to become part of the Zung Fu workforce; a stringent selection process is carried out before the technicians are considered qualified to work in Zung Fu's Mercedes-Benz workshops.
Updating Skills
The process of maintaining excellence does not stop there; everyone at Zung Fu is constantly learning or upgrading skills, whether it is becoming familiar with new equipment or innovative software. All technicians have to pass an exam, known as the "skill gap test", before any new specialist work is undertaken. A repair job on a Sensotronic Brake Control System, for example, can only be carried out by a technician who has undergone in-depth training on that particular system.
To become a technician at Zung Fu increasingly requires more qualifications. More and more come to work for the company with higher education diplomas, and some technicians are currently studying for bachelor degrees in various engineering disciplines.
Zung Fu, in turn, makes a big investment in its staff. It takes more than 10 years to train an entry-level trainee to become a high-ranking technician. Senior workshop staff have to accumulate experience in problem diagnosis, road testing, application of tools and equipment, reporting (communication) and other technical issues.
As a customer-oriented organisation, Zung Fu places great emphasis on the relationship with customers who buy and drive Mercedes-Benz vehicles. All members of staff regularly attend programme sessions covering attitudes to customer service and awareness of occupational safety issues.
Brand Loyalty
The brand loyalty from both customers and staff to Zung Fu and Mercedes-Benz is extremely high, a working partnership with a proven track record. The figures show clearly how much people like to work at Zung Fu: more than 71% of technical staff have been working in the company for more than 10 years.
Zung Fu appreciates that it has the best technicians in the business and rewards them accordingly. There are ample opportunities for skill enhancement, including working trips to the home of Mercedes-Benz in Germany for staff to upgrade their knowledge.
Constantly learning. Constantly listening. Constantly improving. That is the attitude of Zung Fu's technical staff - and, for that matter, the company as a whole.
