The look of the extended front section immediately marks out the car as a member of the Mercedes-Benz sports-car family. Its coupé-esque side view, with lines flowing into the muscular rear wing and short rear end, displays more than a hint of aggressiveness even when the car is stationary. When the vario-roof is opened, it disappears into the boot to leave a hallmark roadster silhouette.

The cockpit is a reminiscence to the world of motor racing with its 3-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather with flattened lower section and sports seats with integrated headrests. The new SLK comes with the option of ordering SOLAR red ambient lighting. The trim, armrests and map pockets in the doors lit by direct fibre-optic cables and the stylishly illuminated centre console provide a pleasant lighting atmosphere when driving at night.
