With its powerful AMG 5.5-litre V8-biturbo engine the new G 63 AMG develops a rated output of 544 hp and a maximum torque of 760 Newton metres. As a result the engine surpasses the performance data of its legendary predecessor – the G 55 AMG – by 36 hp and 60 Newton metres.
Efficiency has also been boosted. Thanks to the standard-fit ECO start/stop function, in the "C" transmission mode the engine automatically switches off when the vehicle comes to a standstill (for example in traffic or at traffic lights). This helps reduce fuel consumption, which means lower fuel costs and fewer emissions.
The highly effective AMG high-performance braking system with internally ventilated and perforated brake discs (375 x 36 millimetre with six-piston fixed callipers in front, 330 x 22 millimetre with single-piston fixed callipers in rear) provides outstanding deceleration figures and brakes the new G 63 AMG safely and reliably.
The AMG suspension of the new G 63 AMG is equipped with special coil springs and shock absorbers and translates the engine’s power into agile handling – without limiting its off-road capabilities.
The new G 63 AMG employs the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. It features AMG steering-wheel gearshift paddles and three driving modes with different accelerator and gearshift mapping: "C" for controlled efficiency, "S" for sport and "M" for manual. An automatic double-declutching function for downshifts provides enhanced driving dynamics and driving safety along with a compelling driving experience. The transmission is superbly tuned to the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine and makes for easy gear changes due to short shift times and smooth gearshifts.
